Guide
A short, plain walkthrough of every step and every screen, from installation to the first report. The app is called seowatcher here and seotracker on GitHub; they are the same thing.
Getting started
- Install on WindowsInstall on Windows with a single file. First launch, update, uninstall, backup and changing the port number. No Docker or terminal needed.
- Installing with DockerInstall with Docker on Mac, Linux and Windows. One command is enough, and no .env file is needed. Your data stays in Docker's data volume.
- Connecting to GoogleTo read Search Console and Analytics 4 data, get a one-time access key from Google, paste it into the app and choose your site. Step by step.
- PageSpeed keyGet a free Google PageSpeed key to measure page speed and enter it in the app. Without a key, measurement stays limited to 50 pages.
Screens
- ProjectsCreating a new project, choosing the site and country, renaming, managing Google connections, and archiving and restoring a project.
- DashboardThe first screen you see when you open a project. The search numbers for the last 28 days, the latest audit summary and your to-do items in one place.
- Search performanceSee which searches you appear in on Google and how many people click. By query, page, country and device, up to 16 months back.
- Ranking trackingSee the average Google position of your searches day by day. The data is stored on this computer, so you can look further back than Google's 16-month limit.
- OpportunitiesTells you which of your pages to touch this week. It splits pages into four groups, scores them and writes the job to do for each.
- Saved keywordsTag the searches you have saved here, follow their average position over the last 90 days, and export to CSV or Sheets.
- AnalyticsSee what visitors from search do next. Google Analytics 4 reports, key events and whether your measurement is working properly.
- Site auditThe app walks your site page by page, checks it against 95 rules and ranks the problems by importance, each with what to do about it.
- Index statusGoogle's answer for each of your pages: is it in search, if not why, and when it last visited. You can ask at most 2,000 queries a day.
- Reports and templatesThe reports you download from an audit or have your assistant write are a single HTML file. It opens on a phone, can be printed and can be shared.
- Project infoWrite what the app cannot know about your site: the business, the goal, competitors, key pages. Your assistant reads it before it starts work.
- SettingsTheme, Google access key, PageSpeed key, usage limits, version and update check. The one settings screen for the whole installation.
